Social media has taken over the lives of many people, but some are only thinking of this as a platform for friends and family to connect or play games.  They are missing out on the real power of social media.  In fact, there is this misconception that social media is only a fad, and those that believe this misconception, are doing themselves and their business a disservice.  Social media is an excellent way for businesses to connect with the ever-growing population of social media users and earn themselves a prime spot in the market.

Demographics Speak For Themselves

You may think that since people use this to connect with relatives, old friends or flames, and new friends it does not have much power to influence buying decisions, but that is not the case.  The demographics speak for themselves.  One of the most popular social media platforms is Facebook.  Consider these statistics from Pew Research.  They found in 2016 that 68 percent of all adults in the United States are on Facebook and that 79 percent of adults that use the Internet are using Facebook.  That way over three-fourths of online adults found on one particular social media site.  You may be hard-pressed to find another website that has such a high percentage of users of all the adults that use the Internet.  Other social media does not dominate in these types of percentages, but they still offer value depending on your target audience.

Social Media is More Than Marketing

More consumers are taking to social media not only to find brands that they want to do business with, but they are also turning towards social media as a customer service outlet.  Savvy social media brands are quick to address these concerns to turn unhappy customers into happy customers because not only does it change the perspective of that one customer, but also any clients that were witness to the quick response of the brand.  This can convince anyone to try out a new brand because of the positive experience from a bad situation.

The takeaway for you as a business owner or thought leader is that you no longer should view social media as a fad that will fall by the wayside thinking that the more traditional methods of connecting to consumers will come back into power.  It is time to stop dragging your feet and set up your social media accounts.  The good news is that the majority of these platforms are very easy to set up, and if you already have personal accounts, it will be a breeze to create your business accounts.
